Real Madrid has long retained a commercial edge over Manchester United. That’s because Spanish football clubs are granted the power to negotiate their own television deals. As a result, Real Madrid receive many millions of pounds more than Manchester United for TV money.
However, Man Utd have not been content to accept the gulf in revenue, which is precisely why they perhaps are the most commercially active football club on the face of the planet. And after agreeing a multiyear kit deal with sports clothing giant Adidas in 2014, the Reds have turned their attention to the social casino gaming market.
Following negotiations, the Man Utd hierarchy agreed a deal with Dublin-based software developer KamaGames back in January. And according to the terms of the deal, KamaGames will have the authority to use Man Utd’s logo, imagery, and branding to develop an exclusive range of social casino content.
KamaGames Has a Reach of 70 Million
KamaGames managing director Richard Arnold understood the magnitude of the deal when explaining that the Reds would be the company’s ‘first official global social games partner.’ At present, KamaGames has quoted a reach of 70 million people for its gaming content, with at least one million of them active on a daily basis.
In distributing its content, KamaGames depends on a number of channels. As well as utilising mobile platforms such as Google Play and the App Store, KamaGames also depends on Steam, PlayStation Network, and XBOX Live. The software developer will likely use all of those to increase the exposure of its forthcoming branded Man Utd social casino games.
Man Utd Casino Games Will Be Free
Currently, social casino content is overwhelmingly free-to-play in nature. And the fundamental reason is that social casino games are typically available on Facebook as well as mobile devices. This is a problem for developers who wish to create real-money social casino games because the vast majority of US states do not permit online gambling. Therefore, the odds of having real-money content approved by Facebook are slim.
Because of the international red tape surrounding real-money gambling, and with Man Utd possessing a global fan base of millions, the club has opted for its social casino content to be free for fans. However, that does not mean that the casino games will be devoid of prizes, as many social apps are.
Prizes for the Winners
To stimulate interest in its free casino content, Man Utd will be awarding a wide-ranging selection of prizes. Winners can expect to be rewarded with merchandise, attendance at special events, and much-coveted tickets for actual games. The prizes should prove vital in helping Man Utd to compete with established social casinos like Big Fish and Slotomania.
The first app to be launched by KamaGames will be a Man Utd-themed poker game. As poker has waned in popularity since its early 2000s heyday, this is the ideal testing ground for KamaGames. After developing and trialling branded poker content, the company will be in a stronger position to create enticing casino content.
